Mailhac is in the Minervois wine area and much of the local economy is based on wine. There are vineyards everywhere and wine tasting opportunities are almost unlimited!
There's an amazing number of attractions in the area, all within a short drive:
The nearest golf course is just south of Carcassonne and there is another one near Beziers which is about an hour's drive away.
The Spanish border is only just over an hour away and Barcelona (2½ hours) can be visited on a day trip.
The Tour de France passes nearby to Mailhac every July. It’s worth seeing for the spectacle, even if you are not a cycling enthusiast!
The nearest big town to Mailhac is Narbonne which is about 20 minutes by car. This has a good selection of shops, markets, and restaurants.
Many of the small towns and villages around Mailhac have markets (usually once a week) and restaurants. There are supermarkets within a ten minute drive and hypermarkets in Narbonne. Within a ten mile radius of Mailhac there are restaurants to suit every taste and pocket!
There is much to entertain children in the warmer months, particularly the beaches. There is also a theme park at Vias (50 minutes), and an African game reserve at Sigean (40 minutes). The Espace de Libre in Narbonne is open all year round and has indoor pools, water slides, ten pin bowling and ice skating.
